About

We run a weekly dedicated paediatric tuberculosis (TB) clinic on Wednesday mornings. In this clinic multidisciplinary care is delivered with an emphasis on the whole family unit.

We receive many referrals for complex/atypical cases throughout the region, including multi-drug resistant TB.

Patient information

Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your child’s TB appointment.

Before your appointment

Children should be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Anyone in the family with active TB should not attend. Contact the TB clinical nurse specialist with any questions. Bring all current medications.

During your appointment

On arrival, children will be weighed and measured. Your first appointment will take 40–50 minutes; follow-ups are typically under 30 minutes. You may see the clinical nurse specialist and/or a consultant.

If TB screening is required, this usually involves a skin test, and sometimes a blood test and chest X-ray. These are typically scheduled for the Monday before your appointment.

Note: Medical students may be present. If you prefer they not attend, let staff know.
