Our children's weight management clinic offers a holistic, personalised approach to supporting children and young people experiencing serious complications of excess weight. We see children and young people ages two to 18.
Our team includes a consultant paediatrician, a clinical psychologist and a specialist dietitian. Together, we work with individuals and their families to design a plan to help them manage their health condition and excess weight. We want to support children and their families to improve their quality of life and reduce their chances of developing more serious, long-term health problems.
We accept referrals from:
- Brent
- Ealing
- Hammersmith & Fulham
- Harrow
- Hillingdon
- Hounslow
- Kensington & Chelsea
- Westminster
This clinic is part of a two-year pilot study commissioned by NHS England.
Referral criteria
We see children and young people with obesity (more than three standard deviations above the mean) with a serious complication like insulin resistance, obstructive sleep apnoea and benign intracranial hypertension (see referral form).
We also consider referrals for children and young people with other, less severe health issues such as raised liver enzymes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), raised blood pressure and abnormal lipid profile, if their obesity is 3.5 standard deviations above the mean.

Patient information
Before your appointment
Your first appointment will be face-to-face at the paediatric outpatients department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital at 9am or 10:15am.
You will need to fast before your appointment, so you will not be able to eat after midnight the night before (you can drink water). We will need to take bloods and check your height and weight.
Please bring your red book and any recent clinic letters to your appointment.
If you are driving to the hospital, please allow extra time for your journey as parking on site can be difficult and may take some time to find.
At your appointment
You will see the consultant paediatrician, clinical psychologist and specialist dietitian at your first appointment.
You can expect the appointment to take one hour to 75 minutes. We will discuss your health, your symptoms, your mood, your diet and your physical activity.
We will work with you to develop a plan together to help you manage your weight as well as the complications you are experiencing. This may be after we review the blood test results, as noted below.
After your appointment
One week after your first appointment, we will call you to share the results from your blood test and discuss the next steps for your care plan.
