Thank you for visiting our website and expressing an interest in donating to the Milk Bank. Being a milk donor is very special – you could be changing the lives of a critically ill baby and their family forever, as donor milk is the second best choice for these vulnerable babies if mother’s own milk is not available.

Our donor milk is mostly used in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to feed premature and poorly babies. We therefore have guidelines for all steps of this process, of who can donate and how the milk must be processed and stored. All of our processes are in line with the NICE Clinical Guideline #93 for the Operation of a Human Milk Bank.

As donor milk is considered as human tissue, becoming a milk donor is similar to becoming a blood donor. Relatively few things can prevent you becoming a milk donor, but it is important you complete our healthcare and lifestyle eligibility questionnaire accurately. This information is required to ensure we are able to assess the suitability for you to donate. Once we have checked through your forms, we can proceed to the next steps of donor registration – including sending a donor pack to you and arranging for a blood screening test to be taken either in our hospitals or at your GP or local phlebotomy centre.

If you would like to become a milk donor for Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital Milk Bank, please do complete our online health and lifestyle eligibility questionnaire below and we will contact you at our earliest opportunity.

If you are interested in becoming a donor but still have unanswered questions please do call us on 020 3313 3559 between 9.20-14.00 or send an email to imperial.milkbank@nhs.net. We would love to hear from you.

Please note: If you would like to donate milk you have already expressed and stored at home, or on a neonatal intensive care unit, there will be some additional forms to complete. Please submit the questionnaire below to determine your eligibility and we will be in touch to request milk handling and storage information. Thank you for your generosity in advance.
