Background

Dr Handyside is a clinical neuropsychologist who specialises in diagnostic neuropsychological assessment, individualised cognitive rehabilitation and psychological intervention for adults presenting with neurological symptoms and disorders. She works within the NHS and independent practice.

Within the independent sector, Dr Handyside provides neuropsychological assessments and interventions for individuals referred by consultant neurologists.

In her NHS role, she helps to lead the development and provision of the outpatient neuropsychology service within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She provides diagnostic neuropsychological assessments for adult patients, referred by consultant neurologists, working within over 25 specialist neurology clinics, including cognitive disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and neuro-inflammatory conditions, neurological infections, neuro-genetics, movement disorders, traumatic brain injury and cerebrovascular disease. She also provides evidence based cognitive and psychological interventions. Additionally, Dr Handyside is responsible for developing and managing the neuropsychology provision to the Charing Cross Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (CNRU).

Between 2013 and 2015, Dr Handyside was the lead clinical psychologist within the neuro-rehabilitation service at the Queen Elizabeth Foundation. Working within a multidisciplinary team, she provided post-acute neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation to young adults presenting with acquired brain injury. From 2008 to 2013, Dr Handyside was a highly specialist clinical psychologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square where she led the organisation and delivery of the neuropsychological service to a 17 bed acute brain injury and stroke unit (ABIU).

Education and training:

Dr Handyside obtained a First-Class Honours degree in psychology from the University of Birmingham, before completing her Doctorate in clinical psychology at University College London in 2008. She completed a post-doctoral diploma in clinical neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow, being awarded a Distinction; and subsequently obtained a post graduate certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology Practice. These qualifications combined comprise the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) which is viewed as the gold standard qualification for clinical neuropsychology within the UK. She holds a place on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN), which is regulated by the British Psychological Society.
