This service offers dedicated clinics for women suffering from endometriosis. Patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of gynaecologists, radiologists, bowel surgeons, pain specialists, urologists and a clinical nurse specialist.

In the management of endometriosis we include a holistic assessment approach leading to appropriate medical and/or surgical treatment options. We are able to offer laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to remove endometriosis.

Clinics

The majority of our complex surgical service is provided at St Mary’s to ensure co-location and support from surgical services in line with NHSE guidance.

Patient information

Before your appointment

If you are a new patient, you can expect to receive your appointment within six to eight weeks of referral. You are welcome to bring a relative or close friend with you to your appointment. You are also welcome to ask for a chaperone and we will endeavour to provide one for you.

It would be helpful if you could bring the following to your appointment:

  • appointment letter
  • your GP’s name and address
  • a list of questions you may want to ask your consultant
  • a list of medications you are taking
  • any results of investigations or operations and letters about previous medical care

During your appointment

Please check in at the main reception desk and complete a registration form.

Appointments can last from 15 to 20 minutes depending on the individual case, but please allow up to two hours for your appointment, as appointment times can vary.

Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.

At your first appointment you will see a gynaecologist who will take a detailed history of your symptoms, perform an examination if needed and organise relevant initial investigations. These may include blood tests, swabs or scans.

We will also assess any previous investigations and treatments you may have had to help us make a long-term plan for managing your condition.

You may be offered medication to help with your symptoms, or you may be given the option of a surgical procedure as a diagnostic or therapeutic alternative.
