About

The adult neurogenetics service receives referrals from consultants and GPs. We see patients with a suspected genetic neurological condition, for expert clinical work-up with targeted genetic testing.

We work closely with a genomic practitioner, and hold a monthly MDT meeting where results and cases are discussed with a consultant clinical geneticist and clinical scientist.

We work in close collaboration with colleagues from paediatrics and clinical genetics departments. We also have strong links with research centres, enabling patients to be included in clinical trials, where appropriate.

The clinic is led by Dr Helen Grote and Prof Richard Festenstein.

Referrals

Referrals from GPs should be submitted via the NHS e-Referrals (ERS).

Referrals from other consultants can be submitted to the clinic secretary: carol.scott1@nhs.net.

It would be helpful if you could indicate whether any brain imaging was done and provide relevant details.

If genetic investigations have already been carried out, please attach a copy of all genetic testing reports.

Patients who are asymptomatic and requiring predictive testing and/ or preimplantation genetic testing (where there is a confirmed family history of a genetic condition) should be referred to the clinical genetics department at Northwick Park Hospital.
