GPs and optometrists can call our emergency department (ED) clinicians for advice about patients with urgent eye complaints.

For emergency enquiries and clinical advice the ophthalmology ED can be contacted by phoning 020 3312 5791 (Please note this number is for referring doctors and optometrists only). We are also able to arrange virtual consultations for your patients from this number, please have your patients contact details available if you think they might benefit from this service.

Self-referrals for patients

Patients with serious eye conditions can attend our ED service at the Western Eye Hospital on Marylebone Road. Please be aware that this service is not for repeat prescriptions, missed clinical appointments, longstanding eye symptoms or non-emergency problems.

We also offer emergency video consultations for patients in North West London who are registered with GP’s. If you would like to access this service with a set time and date please contact 020 3312 3245/0203 312 3247 and ask about the availability of virtual consultations. The suitability of your condition for a virtual consultation will be assessed before you are given an appointment, so please be prepared to answer a few questions about your eye emergency.
