Background

Miss Shankari Arulkumaran completed her Intercalated BSc in Medical Anthropology at University College London, receiving a First and a Prize for her dissertation into Reproductive Rights in Rural India. She completed her medical training at Imperial College, and trained in teaching hospitals in North West London. She was awarded an MD for her research into preterm labour and a MSc in Safety and Healthcare, both from Imperial College, prior to her appointment at St Mary’s Hospital, where she now practices as a consultant.

Miss Arulkumaran was appointed to set up the bereavement and perinatal mental health services at St Mary’s Hospital and is regularly involved in teaching and education with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She is able to provide joint clinics with experienced psychiatrists to provide women support following traumatic deliveries and previous obstetric losses. In addition, Miss Arulkumaran provides comprehensive outpatient gynaecological care.
