Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your appointment.

Before your appointment

We usually see patients within six weeks of referral. You are welcome to bring your partner, another relative or a close friend with you to your appointment. You are also welcome to ask for a chaperone and we will endeavour to provide one for you. Please make sure to bring any results of previous tests or treatment summaries to your appointment.

During your appointment

You can expect your appointment to take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the nature of your referral. Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.

During your appointment, we may need to examine you or do a scan. We will also set up tests, arrange follow-up appointments and discuss your condition, as well as the results of any prior tests or investigations.

After your appointment

We will send a summary of your appointment to your GP and you will receive a copy of this letter. You may be invited for a follow-up appointment.
