Background

Mr Haider Kareem qualified in medicine from the Basra Medical College, Iraq, in 1997. He has trained in both Iraq and the United Kingdom. In the last decade, Mr Kareem has been working at the Major Trauma Centre, St Mary’s Hospital and Elective Neurosurgical Centre, Charing Cross Hospital. Mr Kareem is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, European Board of Neurological Surgery and Iraqi Board of Medical Specialties.

Recruiter for RCTs at St Mary’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre:
DISCUS Study, Principal Investigator of this study, Duroplasty for Injured Cervical Spinal Cord with Uncontrolled Swelling. DISCUS is an NIHR EME funded randomised controlled trial for acute, severe traumatic cervical spinal cord injury. DISCUS will assess if dural + bony decompression improves outcome compared with bony decompression alone (usual practice). DISCUS is a neurosurgery study in trauma setting.
