Imperial College library services combine cutting edge research resources with workshops and bespoke literature search services.

Changes to library services during the COVID-19 outbreak

All Imperial College London Libraries are open but operating with reduced opening hours and reduced staff presence. NHS staff who do not have a library card will not be able to enter our libraries outside of staffed hours.

Please check opening hours before travelling as these may change at short notice. We are offering a full suite of remote services to support NHS staff, including evidence searches, OpenAthens access, and on-line training. We are updating our NHS remote services web page regularly with links to relevant resources and e-learning. Please contact one of the NHS support librarians for more information.

All staff and students at the Trust can join the Imperial College library service and take advantage of a huge amount of research material, workshops and other research resources.

As a library member you can use the Charing Cross Campus Library, Hammersmith Campus Library and St Mary’s Fleming Library. NHS library users may also use the Chelsea & Westminster and Royal Brompton libraries and our Central Library at South Kensington.

The library service supports the research, teaching and study needs of all NHS users, by providing access to a vast range of print and e-books, as well as online journals and databases.

Evidence search service

Library services offers a free evidence search service to eligible NHS staff. The service is provided to inform patient care, service improvement, research activity and clinical teaching. This service is not available to NHS placement students.

KnowledgeShare is a personalised information and current awareness service offered by library ervices for NHS staff. It focuses on your professional and clinical interests to provide tailor-made evidence updates which arrive in your inbox at intervals you choose. You can also use KnowledgeShare to book training and request evidence searches directly from librarians. “

Each campus library has a member of staff dedicated to supporting you in your professional practice. Training on how to make the most of the Library's resources is available to individuals or small groups and can be tailored to meet your particular information needs. The training will help you become familiar with medical, nursing and evidence-based information available on the internet. Visit the Imperial College London training web page to find out more.

Skills workshops

These run across all medical campuses and can help you build your skills in areas like critical appraisal, healthcare databases and writing literature reviews. Visit the skills workshop page for a full list of classes.

Online library search

The library search function lets you find the research material you need faster.  You can also access Imperial College’s e-resources from PCs in the library, as well as online NHS resources from NICE Evidence Services through your NHS OpenAthens login from any computer with internet access.
