Background

Dr Barati qualified as a medical doctor in 1998 and worked as a general practitioner abroad until 2016. He then moved to the UK, where he undertook structured postgraduate training in internal medicine, progressing through each stage to complete his specialist training in acute internal medicine in April 2024.

Dr Barati is a qualified supervisor for focused acute medicine ultrasound (FAMUS) and is listed on the Society for Acute Medicine (SAM) directory of approved supervisors. He also holds accredited qualifications in focused general ultrasound in intensive care (FGUSIC) from the Intensive Care Society.

With a strong commitment to medical education, Dr Barati serves as both the undergraduate lead and the unit training lead for acute medicine at St Mary’s Hospital. He has played a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of teaching and training on the acute medical unit and has been recognised for delivering measurable improvements in educational outcomes. In addition, he is an active member of the steering group for the acute medicine virtual ward, helping shape new models of care.

Dr Barati specialises in acute internal medicine, managing patients with a wide range of medical conditions during the acute phase of illness.

Research & publications

Dr Barati has led a number of quality improvement initiatives, including active involvement in the Society for Acute Medicine Benchmarking Audit (SAMBA). He currently serves as the local lead for SAMBA at St Mary’s Hospital.
