Hasema Patel

Background

Dr Howard is a senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College London and honorary consultant cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital.

He has broad expertise in assessing patients with breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, collapses and leg swelling. He also has expertise in assessing cardiovascular risk and has published world famous research articles about statin side effects.

He is a sub-specialist in cardiac imaging including echocardiography and cardiac MRI scanning, and he has received over a million pounds of research funding into these fields, and his ongoing work is supported generously by the British Heart Foundation.

His undergraduate training was at Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, and he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London for using novel computational approaches to solve important problems in heart disease. His academic and clinical training was supported by a prestigious Wellcome Trust PhD Fellowship and NIHR Clinical Lectureship.

Dr Howard also has a keen interest in clinical trials and was joint first author and presenter of the SAMSON trial, published in The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
