Background

Dr Benjamin Viaris de Lesegno is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with subspecialist expertise in maternal and fetal medicine, currently based at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He holds an MD with high honors and a Master of Science in genetics from the Université Paris V René Descartes, complemented by a BSc in immunology and physiopathology.

He is fully licensed in the UK, with entry on the GMC specialist register since 2015, and certified as a civil expert witness through the Cardiff University Bond Solon programme. His clinical career spans major teaching hospitals in London—including St George’s, Queen Charlotte’s, and Chelsea and Westminster—where he has led care in high-risk obstetrics, fetal medicine, and operative delivery. He has also held senior leadership roles in digital health as chief medical officer at Leva Clinic and chief clinical strategy officer at Certific, with a focus on remote care pathways.

Dr Viaris de Lesegno is actively engaged in academic research, having contributed to numerous multicenter trials and authored peer-reviewed publications, national guidelines, and book chapters in obstetrics, fetal medicine, and prenatal diagnostics. His humanitarian work includes missions with Gynécologie Sans Frontières in France and Jordan. His practice integrates clinical excellence, translational research, and strategic innovation to improve maternal and perinatal outcomes.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome), Gestational diabetes mellitus, Thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy, Infectious disease in pregnancy (e.g. CMV, toxoplasmosis, HSV), hematological disorders (e.g. thrombophilias, sickle cell disease, anaemia), fetal growth restriction and Doppler surveillance, multiple pregnancy complications, previous uterine surgery or caesarean section, preterm labor and preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), cervical insufficiency and use of cerclage, complex intrapartum care and operative vaginal delivery, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) counselling and management, advanced antenatal scanning and counselling (screening and diagnostic), caesarean section surgery, including difficult and repeat cases

Research & publications

Dr Benjamin Viaris de Lesegno’s recent research interests center on the optimization of maternal and perinatal outcomes through advanced fetal diagnostics, enhanced recovery after cesarean section, and the integration of genomic medicine in obstetric care. He is actively involved in multicenter studies, particularly in the UK, focusing on obstetric innovation and risk stratification.
