Sir Gerald Acher to act as interim chairman

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust deputy chairman, Sir Gerald Acher, is to take on the role of interim chairman from 1 January 2019.

He takes over from Sir Richard Sykes who will be leaving at the end of December after seven years as chairman.

Chief executive of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Professor Tim Orchard, said: “Sir Richard Sykes has made a massive contribution to our organisation and has been a constant champion of clinical leadership, innovation and putting patients at the centre of everything we do. We’re extremely grateful for all he has achieved and wish him the best for all that follows.

"Sir Gerald’s extensive knowledge and experience of our organisation will help ensure a smooth transition to our new leadership arrangements.”

An announcement about a permanent chair for the Trust will be made by NHS Improvement early in the new year.

NHS Improvement has also confirmed that Dr Andreas Raffel has been re-appointed as a Non-executive Director of the Trust.
