Resident doctors' strike: 17-22 December 12 Dec 2025

The British Medical Association is planning a resident doctors' strike, which is set to run from 7am on Wednesday 17 December to 7am on Monday 22 December.
 
What to expect
 
Our priority, as with all industrial action, is to ensure everyone’s safety. We will continue to run our emergency services throughout the strike and expect these to be very busy. We are also planning to continue with the majority of our planned operations and outpatient appointments, where we can do so safely.
 
Please come to your appointment as planned, unless we contact you to rearrange. If we need to reschedule your appointment, including if we need to change it to a virtual/phone appointment, we will contact you directly as soon as possible to tell you. We will arrange all new appointments as soon as we can.

We are expecting a particularly challenging few days, with the strike set to take place at a time when the NHS and our hospitals are already facing significant winter pressures. As always, anyone who needs non-emergency medical help or advice should contact their GP, call NHS 111 or go to NHS 111 online. If you need emergency care (for instance if someone is seriously ill, injured or their life is at risk), you should continue to call 999.
