It is completely up to you whether or not you wish to join these projects. If you decide not to, it will not affect the standard of care that you receive in any way. If you do decide to join, you will be free to withdraw at any time and without having to give a reason.

Imperial Health Knowledge Bank

If you are or have been a patient at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and have signed up on Care Information Exchange, you may be contacted by the Imperial Health Knowledge Bank Team.

Imperial Health Knowledge Bank, led by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, aims to build a database of individuals who are interested in taking part in future research studies related to their condition and who allow us to store biological samples for research and teaching medical professionals about health conditions. It brings together our patients, clinicians and researchers to increase understanding of health conditions, detect diseases earlier, develop new tests and treatments and improve clinical training. We have called it a Bank because it contains very valuable information that could improve the health of our community.

What joining the Imperial Health Knowledge Bank means

If you join Imperial Health Knowledge Bank, we will add you to our database of people who are interested in taking part in future research related to their condition. This means that we may contact you in the future about a specific research study if your de-identified health data matches the requirements for that study and provide you with more information. If you are interested in taking part in that research study, with your permission, your contact details will be passed on to the study researchers who will get in touch with you. You have the right to say no.

Do I have to join Imperial Health Knowledge Bank?

No. It is completely up to you whether or not you wish to join. If you decide not to, it will not affect the standard of care that you receive in any way. If you do decide to join, you will be free to withdraw at any time and without having to give a reason.
How will I benefit from joining Imperial Health Knowledge Bank?

You may not benefit personally from participating in Imperial Health Knowledge Bank. Through participating in Imperial Health Knowledge Bank you may be offered opportunities to participate in research relevant to your condition. While there is no guarantee that you will personally benefit from these studies, the results may benefit patients with your type of illness in the future. You will not receive a financial reward now or in the future for participating in Imperial Health Knowledge Bank. The clinical team involved in your treatment and care will receive no payment because of your involvement in the Bank.

NWL Health Research Register

NWL Health Research Register is a register of adults 18 and over living in North West London who are interested in health research and want to find out more about health research opportunities.

All you have to do is give your name, sex, postcode and date of birth. Once you have signed up, you will be contacted about research opportunities relevant to you. All your details are stored on a secure NHS register.

By joining the register you will be told about research opportunities that are relevant to you, giving you more opportunities to be involved in creating a healthier future for you and your family.

The NWL Health Research Register is a way to bridge the gap between the public and researchers. The register is for both healthy people and those with a medical condition.

If you live in North West London, then NWL Health Research Register is your opportunity to contribute to health research. Often people who want to contribute to this kind of research don’t know where to start or who to ask. Researchers have a similar problem – they want to improve healthcare, but sometimes can’t find people to participate in studies.

There are many benefits to joining the register:

  • More people involved in research - the more people that will potentially participate in research creating a healthier future for all.
  • Empowering people - you will be empowered to become more active in health research. Previously only a healthcare professional, for example a doctor or nurse, could invite you to take part in research. Now you can register your interest directly.
  • Better healthcare for patients - with more people involved in research, and more research being conducted locally, advances in healthcare and medicine will follow meaning better healthcare and improved outcomes for local people.
