Learn how to apply for short term clinical electives with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London.

If you are a medical student in in your final or second-last year of medical school or university you can take a clinical elective. These short learning opportunities give you a chance to observe clinical practice but not participate in clinical work like patient investigation and treatment.

Clinical electives at Imperial College Healthcare

We work with Imperial College London to take applications from medical students in the UK and abroad who wish to take clinical electives at our hospitals. Placements last for up to six weeks and cover a single specialty. There are a limited number of places available each year and these are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Placement locations

Clinical elective placements may take place at any of the following hospitals:

  • Charing Cross Hospital
  • Hammersmith Hospital
  • St Mary's Hospital
  • Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital
  • Western Eye Hospital
