Imperial College Healthcare to take back responsibility for running the urgent treatment centre at St Mary’s Hospital

Responsibility for running the urgent treatment centre (UTC) at St Mary’s Hospital will return to Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust from mid-October 2023 following a competitive tender by North West London Integrated Care Board. The new contract will form part of the Trust’s overall contract for the provision of emergency care. UTCs offer GP and advanced clinical nurse practitioner led care for many common conditions and minor injuries. The St Mary’s UTC has been run by a private provider since 2016.

Imperial College Healthcare already provide the urgent treatment centre service at Charing Cross Hospital in partnership with London Central and West, a clinically-led, social enterprise provider of integrated urgent and primary care services to the NHS. We will be working with London Central and West as we develop our approach for the UTC at St Mary’s.

There won’t be any immediate changes but the Trust will be working to create more joined up pathways across all of its urgent and emergency care services at St Mary’s, including its ‘same day emergency care’ unit and the main emergency department.
