Changes to our organisational governance
The boards of the four NHS trusts that make up the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative have agreed to move to a formal group structure, with an overarching group chief executive, from next April.
The North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, established in July 2022, is made up of:
- Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust
- Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
- London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust
- The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We will continue as separate NHS Trusts while developing organisational structures that enable more joined-up decision-making that will help us improve acute and specialist healthcare – as well as health more generally - for our diverse communities.
The first step will be the appointment of the group chief executive, with a formal, internal process getting underway within a few weeks. We expect that the group chief executive will be appointed later this autumn and will take up the role formally at the start of the new financial year in April 2026.
The group chief executive, once appointed, will work with colleagues on wider engagement to develop the best possible group leadership structure, with the right balance of local and overarching leadership. Each trust will continue to have its own chief executive who will report to the group chief executive and remain a key partner to our local stakeholders.
Matthew Swindells, Chair of all four NHS trusts that make up the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative said: “The move to a group structure is a significant milestone in our collaborative journey — one that supports our ambition to ensure outstanding, equitable care for our diverse, local communities and empowers our people to lead and innovate together.”
“It is a natural evolution of the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, where we have been bringing teams together to share best practice and innovation and make the most of our combined skills and resources. The move to a formal group structure will help us make decision-making clearer and simpler and make it easier to develop common ways of working across our hospitals.”
