Three people from Trust nursing team win Rising Star Awards

Three members of the nursing team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust have been unveiled as Rising Star Awards winners by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) London. Congratulations to Andrea Rosete, clinical practice educator, Lovehan Dacres, healthcare assistant and Von Jerold Buendia, a senior charge nurse!

The annual awards are run by RCN London and recognise nurses, midwives, nursing support workers and nursing/midwifery students from London’s Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic nursing community who have made an outstanding contribution to the capital’s health and care system.

Dame Janice Sigsworth, chief nursing officer at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “Many congratulations to Andrea, Lovehan and Von. It’s brilliant to see your achievements being recognised in these prestigious awards and across such a range of roles.

“I’m struck how the nominations reflect our Trust values, particularly being kind, expert and collaborative. I’m really proud to have such a wonderful and diverse nursing team, with colleagues from so many different backgrounds.”

More about our winners

  • Andrea Rosete is a clinical practice educator, primarily based at Charing Cross Hospital. Andrea’s nursing journey began in the Philippines but it was 2024 when she discovered a new passion: education, helping others to grow and inspiring them to success. She leads pastoral support for the Nursing Associate and Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship programmes at the Trust. Beyond one-to-one support, she hosts listening forums where apprentices come together, share experiences, and learn from one another.
  • Lovehan Dacres is a healthcare assistant who works at Hammersmith Hospital. She came from Jamaica aged 16. Lovehan played a key role in the development of the Coffee Project, a wellbeing initiative which came about through the work of a shared decision making council as part of the Trust's Pathway to Excellence programme. The initiativie is designed to improve staff break times and reduce the financial and time pressures on staff, which also had a positive impact on patient care.
  • Von Jerold Buendia is a senior charge nurse at St Mary’s Hospital. Originally from the Philippines, Von came to London in 2019 and worked on a respiratory ward throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Von created an innovative tea trolley teaching programme for colleagues delivering bite-sized, interactive education directly to colleagues on wards.

Congratulating the winners, RCN regional director for London, Lisa Elliott, said: “Through their innovation, leadership, and compassion, they’ve raised the bar for patient care and inspired those around them. Their dedication not only transforms lives but empowers colleagues to strive for excellence. These winners are true trailblazers.

“London boasts the most diverse nursing workforce in the UK, a tremendous asset to our health and care system. Central to this strength are the vital skills and expertise of international nursing staff, to whom our city owes a great debt of gratitude.

“This year’s rising stars are brimming with potential, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve next.”
