Update: Incident at St Mary's Hospital site on 1 May
Latest information on the fire in the Clarence/Cambridge building, St Mary's Hospital site.
There was a small fire in a linen room on the ground floor of the Clarence/Cambridge building on Thursday 1 May.
In response, we had to move 50 patients from three nearby wards that were affected by smoke. London Fire Brigade were on site, helping to deal with the impact of the smoke. This morning (Friday 2 May), patients from two of these wards remain in other parts of the hospital with their nursing teams. No one has been hurt and most services - including A&E - have continued to run as normal.
We’re very sorry for the disruption and concern the fire has caused, and we’re hugely grateful to everyone involved for their support and patience.
St Mary’s hospital director Karen Powell said: “I’d like to thank all our staff involved in responding to this incident – they did a fantastic job caring for patients in very challenging circumstances. We are also very grateful to London Fire Brigade and to our patients and visitors for their understanding."
