Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your appointment.

Before your appointment

We usually see patients within eight weeks of referral for routine referrals or one to three weeks for urgent referrals.

There are no restrictions on who can attend the appointment with you, however please note that space is limited. You are welcome to ask for a chaperone and we will endeavour to provide one for you.

If you are attending as an outpatient please ensure you bring any scans you have had at other clinics or external hospitals, a list of medications, cash for a prescription or an exemption card.

During your appointment

Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.

Typical waiting times can be up to one hour, however this can vary. Your appointment will take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on your requirements. During your appointment you will have a consultation with the doctor. You may also have a blood test, x-ray and plastering of fractured bones.

After your appointment

If you are referred for a scan or a six week follow up appointment, our waiting list office will be in touch with you further.
