Imperial College Healthcare's occupational therapy department offers cutting edge training and education with mentoring from senior staff.

Our occupational therapy department works closely with other therapy departments at the Trust to provide staff training and education. We provide essential training so our staff can carry out their roles safely and competently. We also support personal and professional development so our staff can progress their careers and develop their skills at the same time.

Undergraduate

Our department trains approximately 14 undergraduate students annually; we take students from various London universities, including Imperial College London on their clinical placements. All of our clinical staff contribute to the students’ learning experience.

Students need to complete information governance training (available as an e-learning package) before their placement.

Postgraduate

Newly qualified staff who have less than six months clinical experience, are normally enrolled onto multidisciplinary internship programme during their first six months at the Trust. This includes five training days to get you familiar with the clinical working environment and simulation training so you can get used to dealing with a variety of clinical situations.

Leadership opportunities

Preceptorship

We support all newly qualified occupational therapists in their transition from student to qualified practitioner through a preceptorship. This gives you a framework for competencies at six and 12 months. Preceptorship will also help you develop clinical skills and professional behaviours while giving you time to reflect on your practice.

Education support

We’re closely linked to Imperial College London and this means that we have access to the excellent library services offered at the college. There’s a library on each of the three main Trust sites and all staff can become members.
