Urological surgery team lauded with award of excellence

The Trust’s urological surgery team out performed twenty competitors to win this year’s Cancer Research Excellence in Surgical Trials (CREST) award from the National Institute for Health Research- Cancer (NIHR CRN).

The team will receive their prize, funding towards professional development, on the 3rd of November. Matt Winkler, Norma Gibbons, Steve Edwards, Kwame Ansu and Jo Sethi will attend the National Cancer Research Institute’s conference to collect the prize on behalf of a larger team of staff at the Trust who have contributed to its success.

The team were “outstanding winners” based on their leadership, impressive recruitment metrics, the depth and breadth of their portfolio and their clearly evident multidisciplinary team approach.

Richard Shaw, associate director and national Specialty lead for surgical oncology of NIHR CRN said:

“The urological surgery team at Imperial are the model of how we hope surgical teams will be embedded in cancer research.”

Consultant in urology and leader of the recognised team David Hrouda said: “This is a huge achievement made possible by really excellent teamwork. We have been blessed with very hard –working trials nurses and I would also like to thank the CNSs, outpatient staff and MDT coordinators who also put in a great deal of effort to assist the investigators with trials recruitment.”
