Background
Mr Christos Tsironis acquired his medicine degree at the University of Ioannina in Greece, in 2004. He acquired his licence to practice medicine in July 2004. He completed his training in general surgery at the General Hospital of Ioannina, in Greece in 2014. During his training, he acquired his MSc in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, in the department of Medicine, University of Thrace, Greece. After completing his training, he moved permanently to London and was appointed as senior clinical fellow in the department of upper gastrointestinal surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in May 2014. He then undertook the Fellowship in bariatric surgery at the Imperial weight centre, a world centre of excellence for bariatric surgery, in October 2014. In October 2015, he was appointed as locum consultant in general surgery at St Mary’s Hospital.
He was appointed in his current post in 2017, as substantive consultant general, upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2017. Since April 2018, he is the lead for acute surgery at St Mary’s Hospital.

His areas of expertise include bariatric surgery (laparoscopic gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy, Roux en Y gastric bypass, One-anastomosis gastric bypass, complex revision bariatric surgery), open and laparoscopic abdominal wall surgery (primary and recurrent incisional hernia, inguinal hernia, paraumbilical hernia, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, TAR), laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease, complex gallbladder surgery (elective and emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy), laparoscopic and open emergency general surgery (operations for appendicitis, bowel obstruction, peritontitis), trauma surgery (surgery for abdominal trauma and damage control surgery for thoracic trauma). He has undertaken more than 3000 operations. He takes part in research in bariatric and UGI surgery. He is trainer in advanced laparoscopic skills courses and faculty in trauma courses (DSTS, ATLS).
