Emergency HIV clinic

About

This clinic is for Wharfside patients who think they have a problem related to HIV or HIV medication. Non-HIV related problems cannot be managed within this clinic. Please note that it is not a substitute for regular appointments and does not replace visits to your GP.

To access our emergency clinic please contact 020 3312 5253, Monday to Friday between 09.00 and 13.00.

Leave a message with a contact number and a nurse will call you back to discuss how best to meet your needs.

Messages received after 13.00 will be followed up the next day.

Out of hours emergencies

Wharfside patients needing advice about serious, HIV-related issues out of hours can contact the on-call HIV registrar by phoning the St Mary’s Hospital switchboard on 020 3312 6666.

If you feel that you are too unwell to attend the clinic, you can either seek urgent medical advice from your GP or by calling 111, or call 999 for an ambulance to take you to your nearest A&E department.

What to expect at your appointment

You will be assessed on the telephone by a nurse who will advise on the best place for you to be seen. This may be your local GP practice, pharmacy or A&E department. For HIV-related emergencies you will be given an emergency clinic appointment, usually in the afternoon of the same day.

Please bring along with you a list of current medications.

When you arrive please check in at Wharfside reception. Waiting time is variable and the clinic can get very busy. We will do our best to see you as quickly as possible. Please note if urgent blood tests are required, you may need to stay until the results are ready.

Referrals
