Perinatal mental health patient information
Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your appointment at the perinatal mental health service.
Before your appointment
Most patients receive appointments within two to three weeks of referral to our service. You are welcome to bring a relative, close friend or carer with you to your appointment. You are also welcome to ask for a chaperone and we will endeavour to provide one for you.
During your appointment
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.
You can expect your appointment to take about 60 minutes. During your appointment, we will discuss your history and do a full psychiatric assessment.
After your appointment
Depending upon your assessment, you may be offered a follow-up appointment with our service or referred on to other services.
