Fetal medicine patient information
Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your appointment at the fetal medicine service.
Before your appointment
You are welcome to bring one family member or friend with you to your appointment. Be sure to bring a list of questions for the clinicians so you can talk through any questions or concerns during your appointment.
During your appointment
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse, midwife or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.
At our fetal medicine clinics, waiting times can be up to one hour. Each appointment is different, and while some appointments take 30 minutes, others can take over two hours.
At your appointment, you may have an ultrasound scan, blood tests or a detailed multidisciplinary counselling session. You may also require some other investigations – be sure to ask your doctor for more information.
After your appointment
We will arrange for a follow-up appointment and explain how you will receive the results of any tests or investigations performed.
