Fetal facial morphology clinic

Careful antenatal assessment of the baby’s facial features helps us provide an accurate diagnosis of your baby’s condition and to develop a plan to manage your baby’s care after their birth. At our dedicated clinic, we use pioneering 2D and 3D ultrasound techniques to produce images of your baby’s face while they are still in the womb. These images can help you understand your baby’s condition and enable paediatric surgeons to give an individualised assessment of your baby’s condition and develop a plan to manage it after they are born.

Hours

09.30 to 12.30, every Tuesday morning

Fetal growth clinic

Problems with the growth of the baby remains one of the primary reasons early delivery might be required.  While most babies subsequently develop normally, small or growth restricted babies are at increased risk of both long-term developmental problems and death in the womb. At our fetal growth clinics, we monitor your baby’s progress using Doppler scans and fetal heart rate analysis. We will work with you to aim to time the delivery of your baby to optimise your baby’s growth. We work closely with our colleagues in the neonatal unit at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital, and the hospital is equipped to provide exceptional care for babies with growth problems.

Hours

09.30 to 17.00, daily

Multiple pregnancy clinic

We have a long history of managing complex multiple pregnancies, which require close observation. The Centre for Fetal Care is able to provide assessment of complex monochorionic twin pregnancies (where the babies share a single placenta) and higher order multiple pregnancies such as triplets and quadruplets. The Centre for Fetal Care is one of few units able to offer fetal endoscopic laser for twin-twin transfusion syndrome, as well as other interventional procedures such as radiofrequency ablation, amnio-reduction and fetal blood sampling and transfusion.

Hours

09.30 to 17.00, daily

Fetal neurology clinic

The Centre for Fetal Care at Queen Charlotte’s is continuing to develop a range of clinics combining experts from different specialties, aimed at providing detailed antenatal diagnostic and prognostic services. The fetal neurology clinic combines detailed ultrasound techniques to image the baby’s brain with input from experienced children’s neurologists. This service allows better assessment of the structure of the baby’s brain and subsequent prediction of how any problems may affect development.

The Centre for Fetal Care is one of few units in the country able to offer a streamlined on-site service, which includes ultrasound imaging followed by a review from a children’s neurologist and fetal MRI scanning.

Hours

09.30 to 12.30, every Wednesday

Fetal urology clinic

This clinic combines detailed ultrasound assessment of the baby’s kidney and bladder with expertise from a consultant children’s urologist, helping to plan both antenatal management of any problems and prepare for any treatment the baby may require after birth.

Hours

13.30 to 17.00, every fourth Wednesday

Fetal cardiology clinic

Fetal heart problems are common, occurring in just under one per cent of pregnancies. Our fetal cardiology clinics are staffed by consultant fetal cardiologists and fetal cardiac nurse specialists. They treat babies with structural heart problems as well as abnormalities of heart rhythm. The Centre for Fetal Care offers a daily fetal echocardiography service, where our specialists offer detailed ultrasound examinations of your baby’s heart to better understand any abnormalities and plan for your baby’s birth and post-natal care. Our close ties with the children’s surgical units at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, the Royal Brompton Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital enable us to take excellent care of newborn babies with heart problems when required.

Hours

09.30 to 17.00, daily

Genetic counselling clinic

The Centre for Fetal Care has a dedicated genetic counsellor and clinical geneticist who provide information, counselling, and support in cases of suspected or confirmed fetal chromosomal abnormalities or genetic syndromes. This may include counselling following an abnormal screening test or after diagnosis of a condition such as Down syndrome. With links to major genetic laboratories and clinical genetics experts locally and nationally, we are able to offer detailed consultations and state-of-the-art genetic testing.

Hours

09.30 to 17.00, daily

Fetal and perinatal planning clinic

We offer a joint fetal and perinatal planning clinic with a consultant neonatologist. If your baby is likely to be born prematurely or where there may be specific problems that require specialist intervention after delivery, we will work with you to plan a safe delivery that will accommodate your needs and the needs of your baby.

Hours

09.30 to 17.00, daily
