Genetic testing is not likely to be helpful for everyone treated at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. There is a number of genetics clinics taking place in our Trust; although genetic testing may be available in a large number of specialties. If you are concerned about the possibility of a genetic condition, it would be useful to have some information available prior to your appointment so that you can discuss this with your clinician:

  • Information on your previous medical history
  • Information on family history (includes medical history of first and second degree relatives)
  • A list of questions you may want to ask your consultant.

After your appointment

If required we will arrange for you to be seen again in the right clinics or by a different specialist and we will make sure you have the right tests and follow up. We will write a letter to you and you doctor with all of the details after your appointment. Genetic tests usually take a few weeks or months to be reported and you should receive a letter or an appointment to discuss your results.
