Closure of Western Eye Hospital theatres for refurbishment on Monday August 3
Two operating theatres at the Western Eye Hospital are being closed for refurbishment for five weeks to enable essential works to improve the ventilation system. To minimise the impact of the closure on our patients we will still be able to provide around half of our planned eye operations using theatres on our Hammersmith Hospital site. Outpatient and emergency patients will not be affected as the Western Eye Hospital outpatient clinics and A&E will remain open.
Emergency operations will take place at St Mary’s Hospital, as is currently the case for the out-of-hours service. To reduce the impact on patients during this period at Western Eye Hospital, if it is safe to do so, some patients attending A&E and who require planned urgent surgery will be asked to attend Hammersmith Hospital instead.
If required, we will be running additional surgery for ophthalmology during September and October at Western Eye Hospital to make up for the reduction in capacity in August. We have contacted all patients affected by these arrangements.
