Dr Michael Platt trained in medicine in Australia, then trained in anaesthetics and pain medicine in London. He has been a consultant and honorary senior lecturer in pain medicine and anaesthetics since 1991. He is a professional and highly effective senior consultant in pain medicine and anaesthetics with over 23 years in senior clinical leadership and specialist roles. Managing the most complex and multiple needs of both surgical and pain patients. Dr Platt always seeks to ensure dynamic diagnosis and the highest standards of treatment, which are constantly measured as excellent against patient and quality satisfaction.

Pain management of complex pain problems, including abdominal, pelvic and neuropathic pain. Recent publications and research interests include the use of CT guided splanchnic nerve ablation for abdominal pain; pain associated with mast cell activation syndrome; association of pain system with the inflammatory and immune systems of the body, including neural inflammatory processes. Research interests in anaesthesia include pre-emptive reduction in stress response to surgery and links with post-operative pain, and anaesthesia for complex aortic surgery, including brain protection during circulatory arrest.
