Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust praised for welcoming dementia carers

St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals have been praised for welcoming the carers of people with dementia for extended visiting hours.

The Carers Welcome Good Practise Guide names hospitals which allow the carers of patients with dementia to visit beyond visiting times so they can be actively involved in their care and recovery.

Patients with dementia benefit from having familiar a carer to help them through their stay in hospital. Last year, the Trust, with the help of John’s Campaign, implemented the use of ‘carers’ passports’ which gives unlimited access to wards, enabling carers to work in partnership with our hospitals and improve the experience of our most vulnerable patients.

Jo James, dementia lead at the Trust said:

“We are delighted that all three of our hospitals are some of the first to be named and praised in the Carers Welcome Good Practise Guide – it is a true testament to the Trust’s ambition to become dementia friendly.”
