Trust appoints new Divisional Director for Surgery, Cardiovascular and Cancer

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is pleased to announce that Dr Katie Urch has been appointed the new Divisional Director for Surgery, Cardiovascular and Cancer.

Katie trained at Southampton University and University College London. She held consultant posts at Royal Marsden, St Mary's and Royal Brompton hospitals from 2004 until the merger of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2007 where she has held a variety of posts in oncology and palliative care including clinical director.

Katie led a major redesign of the cancer clinic at Charing Cross Hospital to ensure the service was delivered in a way that was better tailored to the needs of patients. She also played a pivotal role in developing the Trust’s partnership with Macmillan Cancer to ensure that all patients receive the best possible care and support from diagnosis to end of treatment and beyond. The partnership has secured significant improvements for patients such as 11 new cancer nurse specialists to support people affected by cancer.

Katie said: “I am privileged to have been appointed the Divisional Director for Surgery, Cardiovascular and Cancer and to have the opportunity to lead this division of dedicated and extremely skilled staff.”

Chief Executive, Dr Tracey Batten, said: “I am delighted to announce that we have appointed Katie as the new Divisional Director. She will bring a wealth of clinical experience to this role gained over many years working in the Trust.

“Katie is committed and passionate about providing the best possible outcomes for our patients and is visionary when it comes to delivering services that meet their needs.”

Katie will be taking over from Professor Jamil Mayet, who is taking up the role of Head of Specialty for Cardiology within the Trust.
