Trust and AquaFund win top NHS award for water outsourcing - gaining an annual efficiency improvement of 17%.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and water management consultants ADSM, were awarded the ‘Value and Improvement through Outsourcing’ award last night at the 2015 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Value in Healthcare awards. The prestigious awards were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, and a record breaking 532 entries competed for recognition at the dazzling ceremony.

Of the 280 NHS Trusts in the UK, Imperial were recognised as the leader in water efficiency, having gained a £250,000 cash saving and annual efficiency improvement of 17% through ADSM’s multi-million pound AquaFund grant. The AquaFund grant awarded to the Trust provided and installed state-of-the-art water saving technology, site audits, consultancy services, water data and tariff analysis and an industry-leading bill validation service.

The AquaFund project also donates a percentage of its revenue each year on the Trust’s behalf to charity WaterAid. As a result, the Trust has helped assist 350,000 people in developing countries gain access to safe water and sanitation.

The panel of judges, which consisted of senior influential figures in the health sector such as Robert Knoff (National Director NHS Procurement, Department of Health) and Michael MacDonnell (Head of Strategy, NHS England) commented:

“There are clear outcomes for this project including massive cost savings and helping a huge number of people internationally. This partnership working demonstrates a real reliance on each other and they have worked together to produce a sustainable project.”

The awards were a great evening of recognition and celebration for all the organisations making steps to greatly improve efficiency and value.
