Trust event to develop lay partner involvement

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is holding this event in November to develop lay partner involvement across the Trust. Lay partners work with Trust clinicians and managers to help shape and oversee the development and implementation of our strategies, programmes and projects.

As part of our major focus on expanding and strengthening patient and public involvement in all aspects of our work, we are inviting existing lay partners and those who may be interested in becoming a lay partner to an afternoon of activities and discussion with Trust staff.

This session will help build a clearer understanding of this important role, establish what on-going training and support is required, and explore some specific opportunities to join our lay partner community. It is also an opportunity for patients and members of the public who might be interested in playing a role as a lay partner, to meet with staff from the Trust to find out more.

Event details and format

The doors will open at 12.50pm and a sandwich lunch will be available from this time. At 1.20pm guests will be asked to take a seat to continue their lunch while listening to a welcome introduction from the Trust, the chair of the strategic lay forum and its partners along with an update on the progress that the Trust has made on the patient and public involvement strategy.

The afternoon will include hearing patient and clinician stories about why and how involving the patients and the public is necessary and will give Trust managers and lay partners an opportunity to discuss the roles and hear more about the projects either during the coffee break or through short presentations. All attendees, both Trust managers and guests, will also work in small groups to discuss the practicalities, opportunities and challenges of working together in this way. These discussions will feed into the main outcomes of the day which are to collaboratively develop the role of the lay partner, enable the initial introduction between the Trust and lay partners and agree next steps to so they can start working together.

Registration and event details

We request that all guests register for the event by emailing involvement@imperial.nhs.uk so that we can provide catering. The sandwich lunch will include vegetarian, gluten-free and halal options. We encourage our guests to come to the event by public transport where possible and these costs can be reimbursed on the day.

This event is made possible thanks to funding from Imperial College Healthcare Charity.
