Education to Pensions

Education and learning
As the UK's first academic health science centre, our bold ambition is to create an organisation that leads the world in the quality of care each patient receives, in the research outcomes we achieve and in the education we provide.

This means we are developing an organisation in which all members of staff are trained and educated to an unusually high standard.

Learning and development is at the very heart of working life at the Trust, and includes a tailored induction programme. In addition to medical and clinical education, we have teams specialising in leadership development and in vocational learning.

Faith, religion and spirituality
We provide a multi-faith service to meet the religious and spiritual needs of our staff. A team of chaplains, covering Anglican, Free Church, Jewish, Roman Catholic and Muslim faiths, are happy to give personal or professional support. The chaplains can also contact representatives of other faiths. Chapels are located at each of our main sites.

Flexible working and work-life balance
The Trust values the need for staff to establish a healthy work-life balance. We have established a number of flexible working and leave policies, and can adjust working hours or patterns as long as this fits with the needs of the relevant ward or department.

Our special leave arrangements include policies for parents and carers, adoption, civic and public duties, and study leave. We also offer a range of flexible retirement options.

Health and wellbeing
Our occupational health team provide a range of services including initial health screening. We offer support and advice on work-related health concerns and also provide immunisations, blood tests and physiotherapy treatment.

Pensions
The NHS Pension Scheme has a reputation as one of the world’s best. Staff can opt in to the scheme on joining the Trust or at any time during employment. The scheme provides a pension and tax-free lump sum at retirement as well as life assurance cover and family benefits.
