Ophthalmology

Western Eye Hospital is a renowned ophthalmic hospital operating alongside the Imperial College academic unit of ophthalmology.

The inpatient specialist hub for ophthalmic services in west London, it has state-of-the-art areas for outpatients, inpatients, day-care surgery, and a 24-hour eye A&E service.

New referrals are seen in rapid access primary care clinics and patients may then be referred on to a general or specialist clinic. Minor operations, lasers, intra-vitreal and fluoresceins are carried out regularly.

Emergency department (ophthalmology)
This is the only service of its kind in west London. Providing emergency treatment exclusively for eyes, the department is open 24-hours a day, for ambulance and walk-in cases. It features a minor surgical theatre, a triage system, inpatient beds and theatres.
