Women who have sex with women

The Jefferiss wing at St Mary’s Hospital offers a non judgmental service to all individuals. If you are a lesbian or bisexual woman you can attend the service with confidence that we can address sexual health issues relevant to you. Our staff are aware of your sexual health needs and the service is very gay friendly. The service operates Monday to Friday. You do not need an appointment to attend.

Sometimes, lesbian and bisexual women are told they don't need to be tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This is not the case.

The NHS cervical screening programme offers cervical smears to all women between the ages of 25-64 years. Women who have sex with women should have smear tests.

We are able to offer sexual health screening, cervical smear testing, safer sex advice, support, and more (including in-house referrals for help with sexual difficulties, such as low sexual desire or pain during sex).
