Do you want to have an HIV test? Are you in London? Testing couldn’t be simpler, just come along to the Jefferiss Wing at 
St Mary’s Hospital for this free and confidential test. We routinely offer the HIV test to everyone attending the walk-in GUM/ STD clinic.  You can also reserve a slot in advance via this website or by texting.

HIV testing is important as it is the only way to know your HIV status (whether you have the virus or not). The test is a simple blood test.

When you arrive you will be given a leaflet explaining the HIV test. The leaflet also gives you information about HIV and AIDS, how HIV is transmitted and about safer sex. You will also have the chance to discuss any other concerns or questions with a doctor or nurse.

In the UK one third of people who have HIV infection have not tested and do not know their HIV status.

For patients from higher risk groups (such as gay or bisexual men or people from countries with high HIV infection rates) we are able to offer fast HIV tests. The clinician will explain the appropriate test for you and also let you know how you will get your result.

For patients testing HIV positive (those with the virus) we have an excellent HIV clinic in the department, the Wharfside Clinic. If you are HIV positive we will arrange for you to see a specialist in HIV care following your test.
