Rapid HIV testing clinic

According to figures released by the Health Protection Agency in December 2010, an estimated 86,500 people are living with HIV in the UK and a quarter of these are unaware of their infection. Fortunately, HIV is a medical condition which is treatable.

You can now walk in and have a rapid HIV test with the result available in 15 minutes.

The test involves taking a drop of blood from your finger and the result is either ‘reactive’ (preliminary positive) or negative. If your result is reactive, we will also take a blood sample from your vein in order to send an additional confirmatory HIV test to the laboratory.

The service operates on a walk in basis (no appointment necessary) and runs between 09.30-16.30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 12.30-16.30 on Wednesday. It is entirely confidential. It is located on in the Wharfside Clinic on the first floor of the Jefferiss Wing. The Jefferiss Wing is easy to access being next door to Paddington Station and serviced by several bus routes (see getting here).

Please note that if you would prefer to have a sexual health check up in addition to your HIV test this service is offered on the Ground Floor of the Jefferiss Wing (see walk in sexual health clinic).
