Sexual health and HIV services

The Jefferiss wing centre for sexual health is a renowned centre of excellence for the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with sexual health problems, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, AIDS and human T-lymphotropic viruses (HTLV).

It provides a sexual health walk-in service five days a week. Appointments are not required.

The Jefferiss wing also provides a confidential HIV/AIDS service. This includes appointment-based clinics and an emergency walk-in service on Monday to Friday for patients registered with the department.

The HTLV clinic is a national referral centre for patients with HTLV-I and HTLV-II infections and related diseases.

The Clinical Trials Centre is one of the few purpose-built centres in the UK for undertaking clinical trials as well as conducting research in sexual health and HIV, including testing new treatments diagnostics and prevention strategies.

The Haven is a sexual assault referral centre for anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted within the last 12 months. It offers forensic examinations, medical and psycho-social care.

Genito-urinary service
The genito-urinary acute service is a walk-in clinic. Patients can self-refer by attending the clinic on: 
Monday, Tuesday or Thursday: 08.45 to 18.15
Wednesday: 11.45 to 18.15
Friday: 08.45 to 15.15 

Patients can also pre-arrange a walk-in clinic slot by text or on-line (including slots between 8am and 9am for asymptomatic patients).  See the Jefferiss wing website for details.

Young people’s sexual health services (a “you’re welcome”accredited service)
Walk-in sexual health services including contraception for young people under the age of 20

  • Under 20s attending general GU walk-in clinic during opening hours above are fast-tracked

The Rapid HIV testing clinic
The Rapid HIV testing clinic operates on a walk in basis (no appointment necessary) and provides HIV testing for those individuals who require an HIV test only with results available within 20 minutes. Opening times are between 09.30-16.30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 12.30-16.30 on Wednesday. It is located in the Wharfside clinic on the first floor of the Jefferiss wing.

HIV/AIDS
Patients who know their HIV status may self refer to the service either by walking in or telephoning reception on 020 3312 6203.
