From March 2008, the Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit (PACU) will be transferred into the PSSU. This will care for children with general paediatric problems in a flexible way, aiming to keep children out of hospital where possible.
The PSSU will take over the role of the current PACU and will also host the Rapid Referral Clinic for primary care. Nurse-led clinics will support children with general paediatric problems, such as constipation and eczema. From September 2008, the PSSU will be open 24 hours a day.
