Paediatric infectious diseases

The paediatric infectious diseases (ID) service has gained an international reputation for significantly improving the survival of children with meningococcal and other forms of sepsis. The infectious diseases team has inpatients on Grand Union Ward, one of the few paediatric wards in London with negative pressure facilities for serious respiratory infections (eg flu, TB, MDR-TB). There are several specialist ID clinics such as HIV, TB, hepatitis, suspected immune deficiency and Kawasaki’s disease.

The team receives specialist ID referrals from the south-east of England, including febrile returning travellers, pyrexia of unknown origin, complicated Kawasaki’s disease, toxin mediated diseases, severe bone and joint infections and severe central nervous system infections.
