The team includes three paediatric radiologists providing a specialist opinion on paediatric imaging.
Examinations are carried out in the main radiology department on dedicated paediatric lists with the exception of plain films.
A paediatric waiting area, situated in the ultrasound department, is available for all children waiting for examinations.
Ultrasound
This is performed in a specially decorated room by one of the three paediatric radiology consultants.
Plain films
There is dedicated room for paediatric imaging.
CT
This is performed in one of the three scanners with protocols to conform to the lowest dose practical.
MRI
We now have a 3T magnet that has been designed with carrying out paediatric cases under general anaesthetic. There is currently a dedicated weekly list which can be increased to cope with demand.
Screening examinations
There is a state-of-the-art screening room with a C-arm facility and examinations are carried out by a paediatric radiologist.
Nuclear medicine
This is also part of the main department but patients have the line put in on the ward before coming to the department. DVDs are available to be watched during longer examinations.
Meetings
There are weekly clinico-radiological meetings that cover general paediatrics, infectious disease, haematology and paediatric nephro-urology
