The hepatitis family clinic is run by Dr Gareth Tudor-Williams and Dr Ashley Brown.
Dr Tudor-Williams sees the infants and children, and Dr Brown sees the parents. The clinic sees children and parents chronically infected with viral hepatitis (particularly Hepatitis B or C) as well as caring for infants born to mothers with viral hepatitis to exclude vertical infection. Dr Brown sees all mothers antenatally if they are infected with Hepatitis B or C, to help optimize the chances of having an uninfected baby. We provide a follow-up service to check these infants are not infected and have responded well to the 4 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine that should be given at birth, 1 month, 2 months and at 12 months.
The clinic provides treatment when necessary for infected children, and a full investigation service including fibroscanning for the older children. We provide access to research trials in the treatment of viral hepatitis in children and adults.
There is a seemless transition in to adult services for young people chronically infected, who can be seen in Dr Brown’s adult clinic as soon as they feel they have outgrown the children’s clinic.
This clinic is held on the first Wednesday of every month from 14.00.
