Orthotics

The orthotics department at St Mary’s Hospital provides the following services:

• Provision and fitting of orthoses, helmets, abdominal and spinal corsets, callipers, trusses, braces and footwear adaption (both custom and stock)
• Provision and fitting of stock and custom footwear as clinically required both generally, and as part of a multidisciplinary service to dedicated diabetic foot clinics
• Provision and fitting of collar and hand splints, heel pads, simple inlays and internal shoe raise
• Breast prosthesis fitting and supply
• Lymphoedema upper limb garment fitting and supply
• Fitting of compression stockings and pressure garments
• Provision and fitting of temporary orthoses and corsets (abdominal and spinal)
• Provision and fitting of helmets and specialist neurological collars
• Assessment and provision of wigs
• Paediatric orthotics

Comprehensive, personalised advice is given to every patient who accesses the orthotics service.

The service accepts referrals from GPs for advice and provision of orthoses where it is appropriate for these to be provided in an acute hospital setting.
