Cardiology

The specialist cardiovascular unit is world-renowned for its cardiovascular disease risk prevention department and offers a full range of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic cardiological investigations. We are at the cutting-edge of cardiac intervention including percutaneous heart valve treatments, innovations in electrophysiology, new forms of cardiac imaging and the investigation of syncope. Our cardiologists also work with the obstetric team to achieve successful outcomes for pregnancies in mothers with cardiac disease. Hypertension services
St Mary’s is an internationally recognised centre for hypertension research. The Peart-Rose Clinic at the ICCH carries out the assessment, investigation and management of patients with hypertension and associated cardiovascular risk factors.

The department has a particular interest in patients with secondary causes of hypertension, accelerated hypertension, hypertension in pregnancy and patients with resistant hypertension or multiple drug intolerances.

As well as the drug treatment of hypertension, clinic staff also advise on lifestyle measures (such as diet and exercise) for cardiovascular health. A 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring service is provided for both patients attending the clinic and those referred by local GPs.
