St Mary’s Hospital is a major ‘suspected’ cancer referral centre in the North West London Cancer Network with more than 2,800 suspected cancer referrals received per year. Our diagnostic services are supported by a state of the art Signa MRI scanner, the first of its kind in the UK, enabling highly detailed scans and a more accurate diagnosis.

Our nurse-led chemotherapy unit strives to achieve a community atmosphere focusing on patient needs, enhanced by access to a dedicated complementary therapist and benefits officer. Recent focus groups with patients show high satisfaction with the quality of care and support provided by the dedicated staff service.

The Trust treats patients with state-of-the-art radiotherapy technology designed to maximise the treatment of tumours and minimise trauma to healthy tissue. Our radiotherapy departments have recently received CHKS (Caspe Healthcare Knowledge Systems) accreditation – certifying we meet international organisational standards for radiotherapy provision.

All our patients benefit from open access to the ‘award winning’ Maggie’s Cancer Centre at Charing Cross. In addition to being a winner of national and international design awards, Maggie’s Cancer Centre focuses on providing patients with an atmosphere conducive to a sense of well-being and individuality. Joint working with other cancer charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Care and Roy Castle enable our patients to benefit from a wide range of services under one roof, including access to benefits information, support for patients and families, information about cancer and counselling.

Full support is provided to patients and families. All three sites have a dedicated palliative care team which is led by a nurse specialist, ensuring care is delivered in the most appropriate setting be that in the hospital, home or community. Patients are also encouraged to look beyond cancer and are supported in their ‘survivorship’. The Trust has recently been chosen to host two national survivorship pilots to further develop the support we provide to patients after cancer.
